Free Motion Quilting

If you’re a quilter you may have heard about the free motion quilting technique. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term, let me enlighten you! Unlike your standard quilting where things are kept in a straight line, free motion quilting you lower the feed dogs and move the fabric in any direction you want. You have the ability to move the fabric in any direction you wish, you can create squiggles, flowers, circles, squares and so much more!

Free motion quilting does come with some of it’s own challenges. It does take a good amount of coordination between your feet and hands while moving around a bulky item.  Another challenging thing that comes with free motion quilting if finding the right combination of needle, thread, tension and pressure on the foot petal.
