Historic Window Restoration
Kronenberger and Sons isn’t just another carpenter or construction company. They are restoration specialists. Wood windows and doors lose their seal and luster over time. After enough time has passed they can be noticeably drafty, and in worsening condition aesthetically. History lives in these older homes and buildings, and it would simply be a shame to replace them with something modern. That’s why Kronenberger and Sons wants to come and restore your windows and doors, and many other features of your older building.
How They Operate
Historic window restoration isn’t a one size fits all kind of job. There are many factors that go into this kind of work. First they start with an evaluation of the current condition. Examining every aspect of the window, from parts to location and more details. This way they know exactly what the job entails before they begin.
Next they take care of any older and unsafe materials used in the original construction. Asbestos and lead are two fairly common materials found. When present, these dangerous materials need to be properly cleaned and mitigated from further exposure. Doors and Windows are wrapped up in safe plastic containers and brought to a special stripping room, where the paint is removed safely. The area where they were removed from is also thoroughly cleaned to prevent further exposure of dangerous materials.
Once cleaned the windows are brought out to the shop floor, where they are carefully repaired and components replaced. Then they are brought back and reinstalled.
